Miguel Flag is an Associate Professor with tenure at the University of Minho’s Institute of Education, Department of Integrated Studies in Literacy, Teaching, and Supervision. He serves as Pro-Rector for Sustainable Development and Campus Planning. His academic journey includes a geography degree from the University of Porto (1982), a master’s from the University of Coimbra (1993), and a PhD in Human Geography from the University of Minho (2002).
He has held leadership roles, including President of the Institute of Social Sciences (2011–2013) and Vice-President (2003–2010). His expertise spans urban planning, cultural heritage, and regional development. He contributed to founding the Architecture and Geography courses at UMinho and has taught across diverse disciplines.
Civic roles include serving as a Braga City Councilor (2013–2021), overseeing heritage, urban planning, and mobility. He chairs the University of Minho’s Cultural Council and the Bracara Augusta Foundation. He actively participates in European urban regeneration projects and heritage networks like Iteromanum.
Flag collaborates with media outlets such as Jornal de Notícias and Diário do Minho, and has led cultural and sports organizations. His work bridges academia, public policy, and community engagement in urban and territorial development.
