Michiko Nitta

Mrs. Michiko Nitta is a Lecturer in MA Industrial Design at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London (2022–present), previously serving as Associate Lecturer (2017–2022). She concurrently directs the Burton Nitta Studio and has guest lectured at the Royal College of Art (2018–2020). Her research focuses on biomaterials, sustainable design, and bio-art, reflected in exhibitions such as New Organs of Creation (2019) and Beyond Human (2023).

Education includes an MA in Design Interactions from the Royal College of Art (2005–2007) and an honorary Doctor of Arts from Southampton Solent University (2021). Her work explores intersections between biology, technology, and art, with notable exhibitions at venues like the Copernicus Science Centre (Warsaw) and Royal Botanic Gardens Kew (London).

Professional activities include curating biomaterial workshops and participating in events like PRZEMIANY Festival (2023) and Food Forever (2022). She supervises research projects such as Challenging Critical Design (2025) and teaches the MA Industrial Design course.
