Michiel Bot is an Associate Professor of Law and Humanities at Tilburg Law School, specializing in Public Law & Governance. He holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from New York University and has held postdoctoral fellowships at Bard College and visiting roles at Al-Quds Bard College. His research focuses on intersections of law, politics, and humanities, including boycott rights, academic freedom, municipal ID policies, and postcolonial legal frameworks.
Bot teaches courses like 'Imagining Justice' and 'Law in Society' at University College Tilburg. He actively engages with contemporary issues such as Palestinian rights, institutional racism, and the ethics of humanitarianism. His recent work critiques Dutch universities' depoliticization of the Gaza conflict and advocates for Palestinian academic solidarity.
Bot’s research interests span critical theory, legal philosophy, and the politics of undocumented migrants. Notable publications include analyses of Germany’s anti-BDS legislation, municipal ID systems, and critiques of Geert Wilders’ populism.
