Michiel Stapper is an Assistant Professor at Tilburg Law School, affiliated with the Public Law and Governance department. He holds a BA in Urban Planning and additional degrees in Geography, Philosophy, and Sociology. As a Visiting Scholar at NYU's Institute for Public Knowledge (2019), his research explores the intersection of law, society, and urban development, with a focus on marginalized communities and legal frameworks like the Dutch Environment and Planning Act (Omgevingswet) and the European Green Deal.
His teaching includes courses on Public Policy Making, International Relations, and Qualitative Research Methods in the BA Public Administration and MA International Law programs. Key research areas include participatory governance, urban politics, and the socio-legal implications of public policy. Recent work analyzes the discursive politics of marginalization in just transition plans and the role of intermediaries in accelerating energy transitions.
He contributes to the Global Law & Governance research project and has conducted comparative studies in Amsterdam, Hamburg, and New York. His interdisciplinary methods include observations, interviews, and Q-methodology.
