Michele Szydlowski is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology, specializing in anthrozoology and conservation biology. With a Ph.D. in Anthrozoology, her research focuses on captive elephant welfare in Nepal, community conservation dynamics, and the intersection of human and animal health in marginalized communities. She critically examines NGO and governmental programs affecting elephant populations and human caregivers.
Her academic background includes decades of teaching in public schools, zoos, museums, and veterinary colleges. She actively contributes to neurodiversity discussions in education and co-hosts The Anthrozoology Podcast and Anthrozoology Speaks. Michelle serves on non-profit boards and advocates for experiential, real-world education models. She joined Project Dragonfly to advance sustainability and global relationship-building initiatives.
