MICHELLE FRAVEL, PharmD, BCPS, FCCP, is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice & Science at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. She serves as Assistant Head of the Division of Applied Clinical Sciences and works as an Ambulatory Care Clinical Pharmacist at UI Health Care. Her academic roles include teaching and mentoring students in clinical pharmacy, with a focus on geriatrics, nephrology, and hypertension management.
Dr. Fravel holds a PharmD from the University of Iowa and completed PGY-1 and PGY-2 Ambulatory Care residencies at UIHC. She has received numerous teaching awards, including multiple Teacher of the Year recognitions (2008-2026) and the 2016 Award for Teaching Excellence from the College of Pharmacy.
Her research focuses on optimizing medication therapy for older adults, particularly investigating blood pressure variability, renal function in aging populations, and guideline adherence in chronic kidney disease. She has also contributed to educational innovations, such as integrating electronic health records into pharmacy training and developing standardized assessment tools for student performance.
Dr. Fravel’s work bridges clinical practice and education, emphasizing evidence-based therapies and interprofessional collaboration. Her lab or team contributions include leading studies on antihypertensive medications, pharmacogenetic applications, and frailty prevention strategies in geriatric populations.
