Laura Knockel

Laura Knockel, PharmD, BCACP is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and a clinical pharmacist at UI Health Care. She earned her PharmD from the University of Iowa in 2005 and completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency with an emphasis in Community Care. Her roles include teaching community pharmacy skills in the pharmacy practice laboratory, where she coordinates immunization and self-care modules. She has been honored as P1 Teacher of the Year in 2018 and 2022.

Before joining academia, she practiced at Hy-Vee Pharmacy in Iowa City for a decade. Dr. Knockel is actively involved in professional organizations, notably serving as Iowa Pharmacy Association’s Speaker of the House and coordinating the APhA Immunizing Pharmacists Special Interest Group. Her research focuses on immunizations, self-care counseling, innovative teaching methods, and advancing community pharmacy practice.

She has secured significant grants including the Iowa Naloxone Expansion and Training initiative ($1M, 2023-2028) and the UI Advancing Research in Immunization Services Network ($2M, 2024-2029). Her work emphasizes improving patient care through pharmacist-led interventions and optimizing pharmacy education curricula.
