Michelle Egan is Professor and Jean Monnet Chair ad personam at American University's School of International Service, co-directing the Transatlantic Policy Center. A leading expert in transatlantic relations, she focuses on political economy and comparative politics of Europe and the US, with extensive policy engagement including USTR, State Department, and European institutions.

Egan's research examines national security and trade, federalism, single market integration, global governance, and transatlantic relations. She investigates challenges to the liberal order and subnational politics, with empirical work across Britain, Canada, EU, Spain, Belgium, and the US, connecting scholarship to policy audiences.
Her publications, including five books, show a trajectory from foundational work on European market integration (e.g., 'Constructing a European Market', 2001) to contemporary analyses of polarization in global governance (2024), reflecting evolving transatlantic challenges.
Awarded the Morton Bender Prize and F. Gunther Eyck Award, she holds fellowships from Wilson Center, CFR, German Marshall Fund, and DAAD.
