Dr. Yujia He is an Assistant Professor at the Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce, University of Kentucky. Her research focuses on science and technology policy, international political economy, development studies, and Asian studies. She has held distinguished fellowships at institutions including the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, United Nations University Institute in Macau, and the Wilson Center, among others. Additionally, she serves as a Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) Higher Education Ambassador (2024-25).
Dr. He holds a PhD in International Affairs, Science and Technology (IAST) and an MS in International Affairs from Georgia Institute of Technology, a BS in Chemistry from Peking University, and a certificate from the Stanford China Program.
Her research explores Chinese tech firms' global expansion, smart city development, digital trade governance, AI's labor market impacts, and rare earths trade dynamics. She examines these topics through the lenses of emerging technologies' political economy, public participation in science, and rising powers' roles in global economic governance.
Her recent publications analyze the US-China AI competition, governance of digital trade, and smart city projects in Asia. She critically examines the intersection of emerging technologies with labor markets, geopolitical strategies, and development agendas. Her work often bridges policy analysis with case studies in regions like Southeast Asia and Macau, highlighting China's evolving role in global tech governance.
