Michelle Chang is the A. Barton Hepburn Professor of Chemistry at Princeton University, leading a research group focused on biocatalysis, synthetic biology, and enzyme engineering. Her work bridges enzymology and metabolic engineering to address challenges in health and sustainability.
Education: Ph.D., Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2004); Postdoctoral training at UC Berkeley (2004–2007). Current affiliations include the Princeton Chemistry Department and collaborations with institutions like the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab.
Research interests include designing biosynthetic pathways for small molecules, engineering enzymes for C-H activation, and developing microbial systems for biofuel and bioplastic production. Key projects involve fluorinated natural products, non-photosynthetic CO₂ fixation, and biocatalytic fluorine incorporation.
