Shanteri Singh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Oklahoma. Her research focuses on the intersection of biochemistry and structural biology, particularly in characterizing enzymes from natural product biosynthetic pathways. She applies molecular biology and synthetic chemistry techniques to engineer enzymes for biocatalytic applications and generate structurally diverse natural product analogs targeting cancer and infectious diseases.
Education includes a Ph.D. from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (1996), followed by postdoctoral research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (1997-1998) and Utrecht University (2000-2003). Her lab develops chemoenzymatic tools to selectively attach chemical moieties to complex molecules, emphasizing regio- and stereochemical control.
Research interests span enzyme promiscuity, cofactor engineering, and structural biology. Recent work highlights the development of biocatalytic systems for isoprenoid synthesis, prenyltransferase substrate expansion, and structural characterization of enzymes involved in calicheamicin and daptomycin biosynthesis. Over 50 peer-reviewed publications demonstrate her contributions to understanding enzyme mechanisms and applying them to drug discovery.
Her lab is equipped with advanced structural biology tools including X-ray crystallography and NMR spectroscopy. Current projects include engineering of novel prenyltransferases and development of non-natural cofactor analogs for expanded biocatalytic applications.
