Michelle Botha is a Researcher at the University of Hertfordshire, affiliated with the Centre for Health Services and Clinical Research and the Psychopharmacology, Drug Misuse and Novel Psychoactive Substances Unit. She holds a PhD in Computational Chemistry (2019) from the same institution. Her research focuses on computational studies of psychoactive and designer drugs, including QSAR modeling, docking simulations, and neuropharmacological investigations. She leads a project on computational analysis of neurotransmitter receptor interactions to develop animal-free chemical sensing platforms (funded by Animal Free Research UK, 2022).
- Education: PhD in Computational Chemistry, University of Hertfordshire (2019)
Her work spans designer benzodiazepines, monoamine transporters, opioid receptor interactions, and recreational drug activity prediction. Recent articles explore AI-driven academic integrity assessments (ChatGPT) and QSAR applications in drug design. She collaborates internationally on neuropharmacology and toxicology research.
Notable grants include a 2022 project analyzing psychoactive substances’ interactions with neurotransmitter receptors. Her lab contributes to advancing computational methodologies in drug discovery while advocating for ethical, animal-free research practices.
