Michele Larcher

Michele Larcher is a tenured full professor at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, affiliated with the Faculty of Agricultural, Environmental and Food Sciences and the Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering. His research focuses on granular flows, debris dynamics, climate change impacts on hydrology, and sediment transport mechanisms. He teaches courses such as Advanced Applications of Fluid Mechanics and Hydrology and Hydraulics.

Dr. Larcher’s work spans experimental and computational studies of granular materials, including jamming phenomena, particle segregation, and collisional dynamics in obstructed flows. He also investigates climate model bias correction methods and their applications in environmental risk assessment. Notable projects include studies on debris flow mitigation in mountain regions and the vulnerability of infrastructure like bridges to sediment transport.

His research integrates fluid mechanics, geophysics, and data science, with a focus on practical solutions for environmental challenges such as sediment management and renewable energy systems. Collaborations include the EUREGIOLAB initiative and the STEEP STREAMS project, addressing sustainable engineering and disaster prevention.
