Michele Buzzelli is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography and Environment at Western University, and Director of the Western Centre for Urban Policy and Local Governance. His research focuses on higher education policy, teaching and learning research, and societal-space dynamics with emphases on housing, health, and GIS. He has advised numerous graduate students across PhD, Master’s, and Housing Intern programs, exploring topics like student migration, urbanization patterns, wind energy policy, and housing strategies in Canada and globally.
His teaching includes courses such as GEO 3463 (Housing), GEO 4220 (The Geoweb & Geomedia), and GEO 9099 (Research Design and Presentation). Notable research contributions include contributions to the International Encyclopedia of Human Geography on spatial analysis methodologies.
Buzzelli’s work bridges academic and civic engagement, addressing urban governance challenges through interdisciplinary lenses. His advising spans over two decades, encompassing over 30 student projects focusing on housing policy, regional development, and environmental sustainability. His research initiatives often involve collaborative frameworks with institutions like Esri Canada’s GIS Centre of Excellence.
