Professor Michele Burford is a Professor at Griffith University's School of Environment and Science and the Australian Rivers Institute. She has held roles including Dean (Research Infrastructure) from 2018–2024 and Executive Deputy Director (2013–2018). She earned a BSc (hons) from Murdoch University and a PhD from the University of Queensland.
Her research focuses on water quality, catchment-to-coast approaches, and nutrient management, with an emphasis on harmful algal blooms. She collaborates with industry, governments, and Indigenous groups to inform environmental policies. Over 125 funded research projects include grants like the ARC Discovery Project (DP240100269) and NESP projects.
Her work bridges science and policy, addressing climate action, sustainable water management, and ecosystem resilience. She advises numerous doctoral students and leads teams in environmental modeling and bioremediation. Her lab's efforts contribute to global initiatives like the GlobalHAB program.
