Michelle Hobbs

Michelle Hobbs is an Associate Lecturer at Griffith University's School of Environment and Science and Australian Rivers Institute. As a Bidjara descendant, her research integrates freshwater ecology with Indigenous knowledge systems, focusing on mussel conservation, river health, and environmental impact assessment.

Research examines freshwater mussel ecology, environmental flow requirements, and Indigenous engagement in water management. Fieldwork spans the Murray-Darling Basin, tropical rivers, and international contexts including Papua New Guinea.

Professional service includes the Technical Advisory Group for the Murray Darling Basin Authority's Native Fish Management Strategy. Teaching includes Conservation Biology and Rivers & Catchments courses with Indigenous knowledge integration.
