Michelangelo Campanella

Professor Michelangelo Campanella is a Professor of Pharmacology and Director of Research at the William Harvey Research Institute, Queen Mary University of London. He holds a PharmD (USA intercalated, 2001) and a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology from the University of Ferrara, Italy (2005). His career includes postdoctoral training at University College London and a tenured position as Lecturer, Reader, and Professor at the Royal Veterinary College, University of London, where he founded the Mitochondrial Cell Biology and Pharmacology Research Group. He moved to Queen Mary in 2023.

His lab investigates mitochondrial-nuclear communication via contact sites (NAM) and their pharmacological exploitation. His work includes groundbreaking discoveries such as the first evidence of mitochondrial-nuclear contact sites and their role in cellular signaling.
