Dr. Danilo Faccenda is a Lecturer in Biochemistry at the University of Hertfordshire's Department of Clinical, Pharmacological and Biological Sciences, within the School of Life and Medical Sciences. His research focuses on mitochondrial function's role in disease pathways, particularly cellular stress responses and mitochondria-nucleus communication in neurobiology and gastrointestinal inflammation.
- BSc Cell and Molecular Biology (University of Bologna, 2007)
- MSc Molecular Biotechnologies (University of Bologna, 2011)
- PhD Cell Biology (Royal Veterinary College, University of London, 2016)
Research interests include mitochondrial ultrastructure/function relationships, homeostasis signaling pathways, and age-related disease mechanisms. Current projects investigate retrograde signaling pathways in neuronal cells and mitochondria's role in gastrointestinal inflammatory conditions. He leads a UKRI-funded project exploring nucleus-associated mitochondria in cellular signaling (2024–2027).
Recent publications analyze mycotoxin impacts on gut health and lung cancer recurrence factors post-surgery. His work combines molecular biology, cellular pathology, and translational medicine approaches.
