Mitchel-Pierre FAUCON is an Associate Professor and Director of Research in Plant Ecology and Agroecology at UniLaSalle, based at the Beauvais campus. He holds dual roles in research and teaching within the Agricultural and Animal Sciences department.
His research focuses on functional ecology of soil-plant interactions in herbaceous and agroecosystems, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches combining ecology, soil science, and agronomy. Key areas include agroecological innovation through functional trait analysis, phosphorus cycling dynamics, and ecosystem service optimization. Recent work explores transdisciplinary collaboration involving academic and non-academic stakeholders to develop sustainable agroecological solutions.
Dr. FAUCON has authored over 70 peer-reviewed articles and serves as an editor for Plant and Soil, while reviewing for leading ecology and agronomy journals. His academic partnerships include industry leaders like VIVESCIA, Michelin, and AGCO. He teaches courses on ecosystem functioning, agroecology, and biodiversity at UniLaSalle, including the Agroecology, Soils, Waters and Territories program he created (2010-2014).
His work bridges fundamental and applied research, addressing challenges like soil compaction mitigation, phosphorus availability, and climate-smart agriculture. Current projects explore stress-gradient hypotheses, agrovoltaic systems, and the role of root exudates in contaminated soils. His research has been applied to soil reclamation in mining regions and eco-friendly fertilizer development using biochar and compost mixtures.
