David HOUBEN is the Director of the Agrosciences College and a Lecturer-Researcher in Soil Sciences at UniLaSalle, Beauvais Campus. He leads the AGHYLE Research Unit (Agro-ecology, Hydrogeochemistry, Environments & Resources) and focuses on soil-plant interactions, biogeochemistry, and sustainable agroecosystems. His expertise includes soil remediation, biochar applications, and phosphorus cycling. Dr. HOUBEN holds a PhD in Biological Engineering from the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL), Belgium, and a Bio-engineer degree in Water and Soil Resources.
Research interests emphasize functional trait approaches to nutrient dynamics, soil fauna ecology, and the impact of pollutants like bisphenol A. He teaches courses such as 'Soil Management in Agroecosystems' and 'Soil Restoration Engineering.' Recent work explores synergies between biochar and compost, climate resilience in cropping systems, and the role of soil minerals in phosphorus availability.
Publications span 2008–2025, with a focus on soil biogeochemistry, agroecological innovations, and sustainable resource management. He advises student projects on agroecosystem governance and contributes to continuing education programs on soil and agriculture.
