Michel Anteby is a Professor of Management & Organizations at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business and Sociology at the College of Arts and Sciences. He co-leads the Precarity Lab, focusing on work cultures and identity practices. His research examines how individuals navigate occupational roles and organizational structures, with studies on airport security officers, clinicians, puppeteers, and subway drivers. Anteby holds joint PhDs from NYU and EHESS (Paris), an MPA from Harvard Kennedy School, and a MA from ESSEC. He previously chaired the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth and is affiliated with the Centre de Sociologie des Organisations in Paris.
Research Interests: Anteby explores work-related identity formation, organizational culture, and labor practices. His work bridges sociology and management, analyzing how workers sustain professional identities through practices like clandestine side productions or unionization efforts. Key themes include moral relativism in business education and stigma management in LGBTQ+ occupations.
Publications & Awards: Notable works include *Manufacturing Morals* (2013) and *The Interloper* (2024), analyzing business school ethics and field research challenges. He received the ASQ Scholarly Contribution Award and Academy of Management’s SIM-ONE Outreach Award.
Affiliations & Grants: Anteby’s grants include the Donald & Valerie Ruth Honerkamp fellowship and MaxPo fellowship. He advises on LGBTQ+ youth policies and retains research ties in France. His Precarity Lab addresses labor instability and organizational precarity.
