Michaël Backaert serves as a lecturer in VFX and Motion Design at AP University of Applied Sciences within the Graphic and Digital Media program and conducts research at the Immersive Lab. With over ten years of professional experience in animation and graphic design across commercials and short films, he specializes in stop motion, visual effects, and narrative-driven digital storytelling, while actively exploring generative AI applications for creative industries.
Education
- Graduated as an animator from Sint-Lukas Brussels with specialization in stop motion, VFX, and digital storytelling.
Research Interests
His work centers on the intersection of visual effects, motion design, and generative AI, emphasizing narrative design principles. He investigates how AI-driven tools transform creative workflows and storytelling paradigms, particularly through his leadership in the Creative AI project which bridges academic research with industry applications.
