Dr Michalis Veliziotis is an Associate Professor of Human Resource Management at the University of Southampton's Southampton Business School. He co-directs the Work Futures Research Centre and previously served as Head of the Department of HRM & OB. His research focuses on how labour market institutions influence employee behavior, organizational performance, and national labour market outcomes. Key interests include trade unions, job quality, and labour market policies.
Veliziotis holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Essex and has held roles such as Research Fellow at the University of the West of England. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate modules including MANG1048 Business in Society and MANG6241 European Labour Markets. He currently supervises PhD students on topics linking labour market institutions to organizational outcomes and job quality determinants.
His recent work explores post-pandemic workplace trends, hybrid work impacts on youth, and the role of unions in productivity. He has contributed to policy reports on flexible working and home-based employment, collaborating with institutions like the House of Lords. Veliziotis has served on the editorial board of Work, Employment and Society and presented at events such as the ‘Work After Lockdown’ conference.
Notable projects include studies on Greek labour informality during the economic crisis and employer associations in crisis contexts. His research emphasizes institutional dynamics and their societal implications, with a focus on bridging theoretical and policy-oriented insights.
