Wood's research integrates Japanese and Korean linguistic traditions with performance arts, emphasizing calligraphic practice and cross-cultural interpretation. His scholarly work examines textual transmission in East Asian contexts while his creative practice manifests through musical performance, theatrical collaboration, and film consultation—particularly in projects exploring Korean diaspora narratives and Japanese cultural expression. This dual academic-artistic approach bridges literary scholarship with embodied cultural practice.
His sole documented publication demonstrates focused expertise in Korean textual genealogy within East Asian literary history. The 2012 article establishes methodological connections between travel literature and manuscript transmission, reflecting consistent engagement with colonial-era Korean narratives and diasporic identity formation through interdisciplinary lenses.
As Instructional Faculty Director of Japanese Studies, Wood leads academic programming while actively collaborating across Chapman's arts ecosystem—including the College of Performing Arts and Musco Center for the Arts. His advisory role extends to creative projects like Hirokazu Kore'eda screenings, opera productions, and film adaptations where he provides linguistic and cultural expertise.
Wood maintains significant presence in Chapman's creative infrastructure through language consultation for Behind the Lines (based on Andrew Carroll's work), calligraphic contributions to From the Towers of the Moon, and musical performances at Monk's Space LA and Musco Center. These collaborations position him at the intersection of academic scholarship and professional artistic production.
