Professor Michael Wilson is a Professor of Drama and Head of Creative Arts at Loughborough University, where he also directs the Storytelling Academy. He holds a PhD from the University of Exeter (1997) and has held leadership roles at Falmouth University and the University of Glamorgan. His research focuses on storytelling’s role in public policy, digital narratives, and environmental sustainability, particularly through projects like Branching Out, a UKRI-funded initiative exploring urban treescapes. He chairs the British Council’s Arts and Humanities Panel for the Newton Fund and sits on RCUK and AHRC advisory boards.
Wilson’s work bridges academia and community, emphasizing inclusive storytelling to democratize public discourse. Notable collaborations include partnerships with the Mental Health Foundation, Aardman, the Smithsonian Institution, and NGOs like Hope Raisers. His UNESCO Chair appointment underscores his global influence in storytelling education for sustainability.
