Richard Johnson is a University Lecturer in Graphic Communication and Illustration at Loughborough University's School of Design and Creative Arts. He concurrently pursues doctoral research while maintaining a prolific career as an illustrator, with clients including BBC, Marks & Spencer, and Aardman Animations. His work spans children's picturebooks, editorial commissions, and socially-conscious projects addressing migration, war, and urban themes. Recognized globally, he holds awards such as the AOI Gold/Silver Awards and Best of the Best from Hiiibrand, alongside exhibitions at Somerset House and the Museum of Illustration in New York.
Key research interests include visual storytelling, narrative illustration techniques, and the intersection of art with social issues. Notable works include 'Our Tower' (2022), nominated for the YOTO Carnegie Medal, and 'Once Upon a Snowstorm' (2018), shortlisted for the World Illustration Awards.
