Michael Twigg is an Associate Professor at the University of East Anglia's School of Chemistry, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, with a part-time appointment since June 2022. He also serves as Head of Research Design and Evaluation at NHS Norfolk and Waveney ICB, focusing on integrating healthcare professionals in medicines management.
- Education: MPharm (UEA, 2007), PhD (UEA, 2012) under Prof David Wright.
His research explores the evolving role of community pharmacists in managing long-term conditions (diabetes, respiratory diseases) and optimizing primary care integration through post-discharge medication review processes. He employs realist analysis to address NHS priorities and investigates medication safety in pregnancy via collaborations with the University of Oslo.
His 46 research outputs span community pharmacy models, medication adherence tools for bipolar disorder, deprescribing frameworks, and pregnancy pharmacology. Key projects include the Community Pharmacy Futures evaluation and Discharge Medicine Service analysis.
Twigg holds editorial roles in Pharmacy and Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy, and has contributed to committees like the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Conference Research Panel. His teaching emphasizes research skills, professional practice, and communication, delivered internationally.
