Dr. Michael Sparrow is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Advanced Studies, Leadership and Policy at Morgan State University. With over 15 years of experience in higher education, he has held roles spanning faculty instruction and administrative leadership, including positions at institutions such as Ocean County College, Immaculata University, and Northampton Community College.
- AB in History/Government and Law from Lafayette College
- MA in American History from University of Delaware
- MSL in Jurisprudence from University of Pittsburgh Barco School of Law
- Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership from Northeastern University
Dr. Sparrow’s research focuses on academic success initiatives, student learning, student onboarding/orientation, student-veterans, and enrollment/retention strategies. His work bridges administrative practices and pedagogical outcomes, particularly in community college contexts. Recent publications explore stereotype threat interventions, LGBTQ student experiences, and collaborative enrollment practices.
Prior to academia, Dr. Sparrow served eight years in the U.S. Navy, including two combat deployments with Strike Fighter Squadron 151 aboard the USS Constellation. His personal journey as a community college graduate informs his advocacy for accessible and equitable higher education systems.
