Michael Searcy is Professor and Department Chair of Anthropology at Brigham Young University. His research focuses on the Casas Grandes tradition in northwestern Mexico and the Fremont culture of the Great Basin, employing interdisciplinary approaches including UAV mapping, ancient DNA analysis, and ethnoarchaeology.
Current field projects investigate prehistoric water management systems, settlement patterns, and social complexity in northern Mexico. He directs archaeological field schools teaching students advanced techniques including drone survey, 3D documentation, and ceramic analysis.
Recent publications demonstrate innovative use of biomolecular methods for dietary reconstruction and migration studies, combined with traditional excavation and survey. His work has been funded by multiple LDS Philanthropy grants and the Shallit Research Fund.
