Michael Philip Mossman is a Lecturer in Jazz Studies at Purchase College, a Professor at the Juilliard School and Queens College in New York City, and a guest lecturer at Prince Claus Conservatory in the Netherlands. Holding a Master of Music (MM) from Rutgers University, he has been a pivotal figure in Latin Jazz and Afro-Cuban Jazz since his early career.

His research interests span Jazz Studies, Latin Jazz, Afro-Cuban Jazz, music composition, ballet, and film scoring. Mossman has composed and arranged music for films like Bossa Nova and Chico and Rita (2012 Academy Award nominee), as well as ballets such as Beneath the Mask and La Cova do Rey Cintolo.
Michael received a 2013 Grammy nomination for Best Instrumental Arrangement for his Afro-Latin Ellington Suite. His work features prominently in Grammy-winning collaborations, including Joe Henderson's Big Band album and Mario Bauza's Song for Chico. His music is published by Hal Leonard Corporation.
As a performer, Mossman has played with legends like Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, and Tito Puente, and has conducted orchestras such as the Bilbao Symphonic Orchestra and the Carnegie Hall Jazz Orchestra. He has also contributed extensively to Latin Jazz, appearing in the documentary Calle 54, and worked with artists including Michel Camilo and Paquito D'Rivera.
