Michael Pal is an Assistant Professor in Law at the University of Ottawa, where he has been affiliated since August 2014. His academic and professional background includes degrees in political science and law, with expertise in the comparative law of democracy and electoral systems.
- Born in Moncton, New Brunswick.
- Educated at Queen's University (BA), University of Toronto (MA, JD), and New York University (LLM).
- Member of the Ontario Bar.
His research focuses on democratic frameworks, including electoral boundaries, campaign finance, political speech, party funding, and the right to vote. He has contributed to policy discussions as an expert witness before the House of Commons and Senate Committees, collaborated with Elections Canada, and worked as a policy advisor in federal and provincial politics.
- Scientific awards: SSHRC Canada Graduate Fellowship.
Michael previously clerked at the Ontario Court of Appeal and worked at a national Toronto law firm. He held leadership roles as president of the University of Toronto Students' Law Society and senior editor of the Faculty of Law Review. He also served on the board of the South Asian Legal Aid Clinic of Ontario.
