He holds a Ph.D. from New York University and maintains active teaching responsibilities including SOC 379M (Sociological Theory) and SOC 343/RS 337 (Religion and Society), with courses scheduled through Spring 2025.
His research focuses on Sociological Theory, Social Movements, and Religion and Society, examining topics such as evangelical social activism and protest choreography. Young is the author of two major academic works: Bearing Witness against Sin: The Evangelical Birth of the American Social Movement (University of Chicago Press) and DREAMers and the Choreography of Protest (Oxford University Press). His scholarship appears in premier journals including American Sociological Review, Social Problems, and Theory and Society.
Recent publications reveal interdisciplinary engagement with environmental and energy systems research, particularly Texas-focused studies on energy transitions, soil moisture monitoring, and power grid modeling. This work spans environmental trade-off analysis, ERCOT grid scenarios, and TRACER project field data, indicating expanding research into sociotechnical dimensions of energy systems.
Young maintains active research collaborations evidenced by extensive co-authored publications in environmental science and engineering venues. His work bridges sociological theory with contemporary energy transition challenges, though no specific awards or formal student advising relationships are documented in available materials.
