Dr. Robin Willey is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Concordia University of Edmonton, affiliated with the Department of Social Sciences in the Faculty of Arts. His research focuses on progressive movements in Canadian Evangelicalism, art and social change in religious communities, frontier masculinities in Alberta, and contemporary Christian sexuality. He holds a PhD (2017) from the University of Alberta, preceded by an MA (2010) and BA (2007) from the University of Lethbridge.
Teaching areas include Sociology of Religion, Social Theory, The Family, New Religious Movements, and Gender & Sexuality. He has taught courses such as Sociology 100, 102, 224, 271, 332, 333, 376, 471, and 472.
His research explores intersections between religion, gender, and social change. Notable projects include studies on faith-based cosmopolitanism, Alberta’s oil culture masculinity, and the postconservative turn in Evangelicalism. His work bridges sociology, religious studies, and critical theory.
Willey has published in top journals like Journal of Contemporary Religion, Norma, and Theory and Society. He co-curated the Articles of Faith exhibition and engages in public scholarship on religion’s evolving role in modern societies.
