Michael O. Snyder is an Assistant Professor of Visual Communications at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, Syracuse University, joining in Fall 2023. He teaches Photojournalism, Documentary Photography, Filmmaking, and Visual Storytelling. His research focuses on the intersection of environmental and cultural change, leveraging his background in environmental science and visual storytelling to create impactful narratives.
Education:
- Master of Science in Environmental Sustainability, University of Edinburgh, Scotland
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Dickinson College, Pennsylvania
Research & Awards: Snyder’s work has been recognized with grants and awards including the National Geographic Young Explorer Grant and Bertha Foundation Climate Journalism Fellowship. His films and photojournalism have been featured in over 60 festivals, media outlets like National Geographic, and global exhibitions, including NYC Climate Week and the first photo exhibit in Space.
