Michael O’Leary is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Mathematics at Towson University’s Fisher College of Science and Mathematics. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Mathematics from Northwestern University and a B.S. in Physics & Mathematics from Benedictine University. His research spans cybersecurity, geographic profiling, differential equations, and applied mathematics, with significant contributions to criminal behavior modeling and cyber defense education.
Research interests include:
- Developing Bayesian algorithms for geographic profiling of serial criminals (funded by National Institute of Justice)
- Cybersecurity curriculum development and national collegiate cyber defense competitions
- Mathematical modeling in fluid dynamics and spatial analysis
His publications focus on:
- Cybersecurity pedagogy and competition frameworks (2012-2017)
- Geographic profiling using Bayesian spatial models (2009-2011)
