Dr. Cody Welu is an Associate Professor at The Beacom College of Computer & Cyber Sciences, Dakota State University. He specializes in defensive cybersecurity education and research, focusing on wireless security, network defense, threat hunting, and incident response. He advises the Defensive Security Club and coaches DSU’s Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC) team.
Education: Ph.D. in Cyber Operations (DSU, 2019); M.S. in Applied Computer Science with Cyber Operations specialization (DSU, 2015); B.S. in Computer and Network Security with Cyber Operations (DSU, 2014).
Research interests include cybersecurity education methodologies, threat hunting strategies, and practical lab environments for training incident response skills. He has won awards at DEF CON and Wild West Hacking Fest CTF. Recent work emphasizes bridging academic research with real-world cybersecurity challenges.
Grants include leadership roles in GenCyber Teachers programs (2022–2023) and the Career Preparation National Center subgroup (2022). His publications address cybersecurity competitions, certificate validation, and lab-based threat hunting training.
