Dr. Michael Naughton is an NIHR In-Practice Fellow and Research Fellow at Queen Mary University of London's Wolfson Institute of Population Health. He works as a GP at Bromley by Bow Healthcare in Tower Hamlets and serves as the Tower Hamlets Clinical Lead in Medicines Optimisation for NHS North East London Integrated Care Board. His research focuses on improving prescribing practices, reducing polypharmacy, and advancing healthcare sustainability. He chairs a sub-group addressing over-prescribing and collaborates with institutions including King's College London and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
Dr. Naughton holds an MBChB from the University of Sheffield and completed GP Academic Clinical Fellowship training at King’s College London. He is currently completing an MSc in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. His work integrates clinical practice with research to address health inequalities and enhance public health outcomes for vulnerable populations, particularly those with Severe Mental Illness.
His NIHR fellowship supports pharmacoepidemiology research under Professor Rohini Mathur, examining drug utilization trends and their environmental impacts. Collaborations span multiple universities, including the University of Exeter and Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to healthcare challenges.
