Professor Trevor Sheldon is a Professor of Health Services Research at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), affiliated with the Wolfson Institute of Population Health and the Centre for Public Health & Policy. He also serves as Interim Deputy Institute Director and Research Mentor at the Bradford Institute for Health Research. His academic career includes roles as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of York and Dean of the Hull York Medical School.
Sheldon’s research focuses on healthcare effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, patient safety, health policy, and reducing health inequalities. He co-directs the UK Prevention Research Partnership-funded ActEarly consortium, addressing child poverty in Bradford and Tower Hamlets. Collaborations include the Tower Hamlets Health Determinants Research Collaboration and the PREPARE partnership with the King’s Fund.
He chairs the NIHR Population Health Career Scientist Award panel and the NIHR Yorkshire and Humber Patient Safety Research Collaboration Advisory Board. His teaching includes the QMUL MSc in Global Public Health and Policy. Key research methods include evidence synthesis, observational studies, and qualitative analysis.
Sheldon’s work emphasizes ‘upstream’ interventions targeting social determinants of health, with a focus on policy and community engagement. His publications span topics like delirium prevention in hospices, pandemic mental health impacts, and healthcare system optimization post-pandemic.
