Associate Professor Michael Mehmet is a leading academic in marketing at the University of Wollongong’s School of Business. Specializing in integrating emerging technologies like Generative AI into marketing education, he has pioneered courses such as the first university-level subject on Generative AI for marketing, enhancing UOW’s reputation as an innovative institution. His research focuses on digital marketing, multimodal frameworks for evaluating communications, and applying social listening techniques to policy development in areas like marine management and health. Collaborations with industry partners such as Google and OpenAI bridge theory and practice in his teaching.
Key research interests include AI-driven marketing strategies, social marketing to influence public policy, and leveraging digital tools for marginalized communities. He has contributed to impactful projects such as Equally Well and Shaping shark management in NSW, using data-driven approaches to address societal challenges. Michael also holds editorial roles at the Australasian Marketing Journal and International Journal of Market Research.
Funding highlights include a $25,600 project on GenAI in banking services (2023–2024). His teaching philosophy emphasizes experiential learning, preparing students for AI-driven careers through real-world challenges and ethical considerations.
