Michael MccGwire OBE (1924–2016) was an Honorary Professor at Aberystwyth University’s Department of International Politics and a renowned strategic thinker. His career spanned the Royal Navy, intelligence analysis, academia, and think-tanking. He served as head of the Soviet naval section at British intelligence and later joined Brookings Institution in Washington, analyzing Cold War strategy. His work focused on nuclear deterrence, Soviet naval expansion, and global security.
