Dr Shounak Set is a Lecturer in Defence Studies at King’s College London's Department of War Studies and teaches at the UK Defence Academy. He holds a Marie Curie Fellowship and is an Aspen Rising Leader Fellow. His research focuses on strategic studies, nuclear policy, and outer space security with a regional emphasis on India, South Asia, and the Indo-Pacific.
Education and Training: Graduated from the ECPR Summer School in Research Methods and the Essex Summer School in Social Science Data Analysis. Affiliated with the Tokyo Foundation for Policy Research through the SYLFF Fellowship.
Research Interests: Examines nuclear deterrence, space warfare ethics, India-China strategic competition, and historical strategic texts like Kautilya's Arthashastra. His work bridges ancient strategic thought with modern security challenges.
Publications and Media Engagement: Over 30 peer-reviewed articles in journals like RUSI Journal and Cambridge Review of International Affairs, plus thinktank contributions. Regularly featured in BBC, DW, and The Hindu Business Line.
Awards: Nominated for King’s Education Award for teaching 'Statecraft, Warfare and Diplomacy' module. Conducts Professional Military Education at the Joint Services Command & Staff College and Royal College of Defence Studies.
Grants and Projects: Lead researcher in the Horizon 2020-funded Global India network, focusing on EU-India security cooperation. Hosted the DSD Research Seminar on outer space militaryization (2024).
