Shashank Joshi serves as Defence Editor at The Economist and holds a Visiting Senior Research Fellow position at King's College London's Department of War Studies within the School of Security Studies. Previously, he was a Senior Research Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), where he now serves on the Advisory Board, and a Research Associate at Oxford University's Changing Character of War Programme.
His research focuses on international security, defence policy, military technology, nuclear weapons, and intelligence. His educational background includes degrees from Cambridge University in economics and social and political sciences, and from Harvard University in the Department of Government as a Kennedy Scholar from Britain to the United States. He has also participated in the Summer Workshop on the Analysis of Military Operations and Strategy (SWAMOS) at Cornell University.
His recent publications examine nuclear proliferation, cyber conflict, the Afghan war, and open source intelligence. His articles consistently analyze geopolitical shifts, military technology developments, and strategic challenges across multiple regions including the Indo-Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East.
