Dr. Michael Mamp is Associate Professor and Director/Curator of the LSU Textile and Costume Museum at Louisiana State University. His research examines twentieth-century American fashion and textiles through material culture and archival analysis, with focus areas including women designers, Queer fashion, and Acadian textile traditions.
Mamp's scholarship bridges historical research with curatorial practice, exploring themes of cultural identity, gender expression, and design innovation. His publications analyze figures including Charles Pierce, Ethel Wallace, and the Gibson Girl through interdisciplinary lenses combining fashion theory, queer studies, and material culture analysis.
As curator, he has developed significant exhibitions including 'Woven Louisiana History: Acadian Textiles' and 'Coming Home: Geoffrey Beene'. His work has earned recognition including the SEMC Silver Exhibition Award and International Textile and Apparel Association teaching award. His teaching encompasses fashion history, queer fashion studies, and curation methods.
