Michael Larkin

Michael Larkin is a Kokatha man serving as Senior Lecturer in Indigenous Health at the Adelaide Medical School, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Adelaide. With over twenty years of professional experience across State Government health, tertiary education, research, and Aboriginal community-controlled health sectors, he brings extensive expertise to Indigenous health education and research.

His educational background includes a Cert. III Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, Cert. IV Training and Assessment, Bachelor of Justice and Society, and Master of Public Health. He is currently pursuing a PhD (part-time) exploring strategies to improve access and uptake of hepatitis B care within Aboriginal communities using a mixed methods approach.

Mr. Larkin's research interests span Aboriginal health, Indigenous health research ethics, public health, primary health care, anti-racism education, liver disease prevention, cancer prevention, kidney disease health promotion, and oral health. His work emphasizes culturally appropriate, community-centered approaches to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal people and communities.

• Co-lead developer of 'Stop the Spread – Stay Strong' COVID-19 awareness campaign for Aboriginal communities

As an active contributor to Indigenous health ethics, he advises HRECs on appropriate processes for ethical review of Indigenous research and frequently speaks on these topics both locally and nationally.
