Steven Larkin

Professor Steven Larkin is the Pro Vice-Chancellor Indigenous Engagement at the University of Adelaide, leading initiatives in Indigenous education and policy. Previously, he held senior roles at Charles Darwin University and the University of Newcastle, becoming the first Aboriginal person in a senior university executive position in Australia. His academic credentials include a PhD from Queensland University of Technology, a Master’s in Social Science from Charles Sturt University, and a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Queensland. Professor Larkin’s research focuses on Indigenous health, education, and public policy, with a particular emphasis on culturally grounded wellbeing frameworks. He has advised on national Indigenous policy and contributed to landmark reviews, such as the 2012 Review of Higher Education Access and Outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People. His work bridges academic, policy, and community spheres to advance Indigenous sovereignty and equity in education systems.
