Stephen Harfield, a Narungga and Ngarrindjeri man from South Australia, is a Senior Research Fellow at the UQ Poche Centre for Indigenous Health within the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences at the University of Queensland. He holds advanced qualifications including a Master of Philosophy in Applied Epidemiology (Australian National University, 2019), a Master of Public Health (Flinders University, 2013), and a Bachelor of Health Sciences (University of Adelaide, 2008).

His work spans adolescent health, sexual health, men’s health, and health services research, with a 2025 PhD thesis addressing Strengthening Primary Health Care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Young People in Urban Southeast Queensland. Recent publications analyze health service access barriers, digital health interventions, and Indigenous research quality frameworks. In 2025, he received the Lowitja Institute’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Award.
Current grants include Type 2 diabetes management (NHMRC MRFF) and Indigenous men's wellbeing (Flinders University). He actively supervises research projects and advocates for culturally responsive healthcare models.
