Michael Kozakowski is a Lecturer and Director of the Yehuda Elkana Center for Teaching, Learning, and Higher Education Research at the Central European University (CEU). He specializes in education policy, migrant integration, and colonial history, with a focus on the intersection of democracy, citizenship, and education. Previously, he held academic roles at institutions including Keele University, Sciences Po, and the University of Chicago.
His education includes a PhD in History from the University of Chicago, an MA in History from the same institution, and a B.S.F.S. in International History from Georgetown University. His research explores racial and class inequalities in education, internationalization strategies in universities, and pedagogical innovations. He leads the Open Society University Network’s “Developing Teaching Professionals” program and collaborates with the European University Association on crisis responses in higher education.
His work integrates historical analysis with contemporary educational challenges, emphasizing inclusive practices and strategic planning. He has taught at multiple levels, from BA to PhD programs, and facilitated workshops on teaching methodologies. His recent articles address migrant labor in colonial contexts, pandemic pedagogies, and the transformation of Mediterranean labor dynamics.
