Michael Kenneally is Professor and founding co-director of Concordia University's School of Irish Studies, specializing in modern Irish literature and Irish-Canadian cultural history. A recipient of Ireland's Presidential Distinguished Service Award, he established Canada's first research chair in Irish Studies and edited the Canadian Journal of Irish Studies. Kenneally holds honorary doctorates from the National University of Ireland and University of Innsbruck.
His research examines autobiographical forms in Irish writing, literary representations of emigration, and cross-cultural connections between Ireland and Quebec. Publications include studies of Sean O'Casey's autobiography and edited collections on Irish literary culture. Kenneally teaches courses on contemporary Irish literature, James Joyce, and the Irish short story tradition.
As Honorary Consul General for Quebec (2002-2022), Kenneally strengthened Ireland-Quebec cultural relations. He co-founded the Canadian Irish Studies Foundation and received numerous community honors including Grand Marshall of Montreal's St. Patrick's Day Parade.
