Dr. Regina Donlon is a Lecturer in Irish History at Carlow College, St. Patrick’s. She holds a PhD from Maynooth University (2014) and previously worked in the Department of History at Maynooth University. Her research focuses on 19th–20th century Irish diaspora experiences, using transnational and comparative methodologies to examine migration patterns, immigrant communities, and return migration during Ireland’s revolutionary period.
Education includes a first-class honours BA in German and History from NUI Maynooth (2008), a PGDE (2009), and a PhD in History (2014). She received a prestigious Irish Research Council Post-Doctoral Fellowship (2014–2016) for her project on Tuke Irish emigration to Minnesota.
Her research interests span Irish emigrant experiences through socio-economic, religious, political, and gendered lenses. Current work explores return migration to Ireland during the revolutionary era. Key publications include a monograph on German/Irish Midwestern migration (2018) and articles on Fenian Brotherhood activities and famine immigrant analysis.
Awards include the Irish Research Council Fellowship. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Irish history, migration studies, and transnational perspectives.
