Michael J Kessler is an Associate Professor of the Practice of Moral and Political Theory in the Department of Government at Georgetown College, Executive Director of the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs, and an Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center. His interdisciplinary work bridges law, politics, religion, and ethics.

Kessler's research integrates theological inquiry with political and legal theory, focusing on law and religion intersections, moral life under legal regimes, and polarization in educational contexts. He is currently co-editing the Oxford Handbook of Political Theology and writing a monograph titled Sparks of Conscience: Law and Moral Life.
His scholarly contributions include co-editing Mystics: Presence and Aporia (2003) and co-authoring the 2018 article on classroom polarization. Awards include the William Rainey Harper Fellowship and Henry Luce Dissertation Fellowship.
As Berkley Center Executive Director, Kessler manages academic/public programs, fundraising, events, and communications. He previously served as Assistant Dean for Strategic Planning and Faculty Development at Georgetown College, overseeing curricular development, international affairs, and graduate program initiatives.
